NHM Day 4 / NHM Jour 4
The evaluation of the phylogenetic relationships between gavialoids and tomistomins needs study of basal and derived gavialoids.
Eogavialis africanum is a Late Eocene gavialoid from Fayum, Egypt.
Many gavialoids have been found in the Siwalik Hills (Pakistan). Several species have been named, and sometime they have been considered as Gavialis gangeticus, or as belonging to a different genus. All the remains from the Siwalik Hills need revision.
Some alligatoroids, such as Acynodon, are probably Hylaeochampsids. The “move” of these alligatoroids to basal eusuchian group could have consequences in the history of some characters, and could have consequences on the relationships of basal crocodylians. So the matrice should be expanded to more basal groups, such as atoposaurids. The atoposaurid Theriosuchus pusillus from the Berriasian of UK is this studied to be included in the phylogenetics analyses of crocodylians.
